Art nouveau was a style of art that used natural curve flows and botanicals. It is very stylized, in contrast to the very realistically accurate botanical and architectural art it replaced in the 19th century (1800s). Its curviness distinguishes it from art deco’s straight lines, which followed.
It was used in advertisements, paintings, stained glass, ceramics, jewelry, furniture and architecture. Some of the great art nouveau artists were Aubrey Beardsley (illustration), Alphonse Mucha (illustration, painting) Tiffany (stained glass), Hector Guimard (Paris Metro entrance), and Gaudi (buildings in Barcelona, Spain).

It is a style that was very floral, curvalenious, used with alot of gold paint. Gustave Klimt is the most famous artist who painted in this style.
When you view his works, you will c how different it is from other styles of art. Many patterns are used, and figures are not really exaggerated in a ny way, meaning, it is very realistic looking.
